Make the Most of Your Time with Time Management Techniques

Are you looking for ways to manage your time more effectively? It’s true: better time management leads to a fuller yet more balanced life. We all strive to have time to enjoy life while fulfilling our obligations and responsibilities to ourselves, family, workplace, and community. If you are currently managing your time to your satisfaction, then Bravo! You are practicing an important life skill. If you are not practicing time management, you may want to take it for a test drive. It’s a great tool to use in building your personal brand. Here are some tips to help you get started.

7 Tips to Manage Your Time

Tip 1.

Know your potential and capacities. This is a very important first step of time management. When you know your own capabilities, you get a good idea of how soon you can accomplish a particular task. Others may take a whole day for something you can do within an hour. So, understand your own potential first.

Tip 2.

Time the things you commonly do. If you regularly do a particular type of work, then check how much time you need to do that. When you manage your time, in the future you’ll know how much time it takes to complete a particular task.

Tip 3.

Always prioritize your work. Give priority to things that are more important, those that have an influence on other things that you do. If Task A determines when Task B can be started or how it will be started, then do Task A first. Proper prioritization can lead to better productivity.

Tip 4.

Keep proper time for every kind of activity—work, play and recreation. Keep some family and play time as well. If you only allot time for work, then your time management will backfire because you will be stressed out. The purpose of time management is to create a harmonious balance in your life.

Tip 5.

Always add some variety in your tasks. Don’t do the same things over and over again. Clockwork precision may sound good for time management, but it actually isn’t. When things become boring, they may take longer to finish just because you may not stay motivated to do the same kinds of things repetitively. Variety is the spice of life.

Tip 6.

Plan ahead of deadlines. Have a strategy for work that must be completed within a specific period of time. Proper planning will help you get it done. Plan to finish your work a little ahead of schedule. Allow enough time in case something goes wrong and the extra time is needed to resolve problems and finish the job.

Tip 7.

Keep all your watches and clocks five minutes ahead. Even if you consciously know that they are ahead, your subconscious mind will respond to the hands of the watch or clock and try to work faster. It happens—try it out!

Try these time management tips. Effective management of your time is key to discovering your best life, finding balance, and making time to do the things you enjoy in life.
